Youth Cricket Clinic (Ages 6-14)
In partnership with DAS Adventure Sports, Apex is proud to present a Spring 2020 Youth Cricket Clinic (ages 6-14) on the new Apex turf.
This 6-week intensive clinic will be led by a living legend in the sport – Ivy Mahabir – a USA Hall of Fame Cricketer, founding member of Women’s Cricket in the U.S., England Cricket Board Certified Coach, and top umpire in the region (the first and only female Cricket umpire in the region).
Clinic format will focus primarily on rules of the game, field settings, hand-eye coordination, throwing, catching, batting & bowling techniques, fitness, and gameplay – player evaluations provided upon clinic completion. At the conclusion of this clinic, Apex will consider the formation of 2020-2021 club teams.
Dates: Thursdays, starting April 23rd (runs for 6 weeks)
Youth Rugby Clinic (Ages 7-14)
Apex is proud to welcome Brian Brott-Turpie, Head Coach of TCNJ Men’s Rugby, to the turf this Spring for a 6-week Coed Youth Rugby Clinic (ages 7-14).
Coach Brott-Turpie is credited with transforming the program in just two short years. After three winless seasons, the squad is thriving under his leadership, which his players attribute to camaraderie, and a more team-centric and skills-focused approach.
Originally from Australia, Coach Brott-Turpie spent 10 years in New Zealand playing and coaching both Rugby and Cricket, and attended Massey University.
Coach Brott-Turpie and his family have resided in Hillsborough for 8 years, during which he served as the Assistant Rugby Coach at Hillsborough High School from 2014-2016.
He holds a USA Rugby Level 200 Coaching Certificate, which tests for effective coaching techniques such as teaching through games, technical skill development through progressions, and collaborative coaching.
The clinic format will focus primarily on rules of the game, contact techniques, game play, and fundamental skill development in passing, receiving, catching, and kicking – adapted to flag and touch guidelines for safe learning and competition. The environment of the sessions will be fun, inclusive, team-oriented, safe, and friendly. Player evaluations will be provided to each player upon clinic completion. At the conclusion of this clinic, Apex will consider team formations for the New Jersey Rugby Summer League.
Dates: Tuesdays, starting April 28th (runs for 6 weeks)
